I love this podcast but I have this nagging feeling that it is Jack Luna from “Dark Topic”, but without the rambling! Can you have a voice doppelgänger? Crazy, ironic and familiar but very good! I loved Jack so it was easy to enjoy this podcast!

Great content, so-so writing?

I love this show, and the host has a great voice, but the writing isn’t as clean as other podcasts I listen to. Plenty of reviewers have pointed out the mispronunciations, so I won’t harp on that, but he repeats the same things multiple times in short segments, and also says incorrect names and facts sometimes, which is probably just things being missed in script editing. If you need an editor/proofreader, let me know! Other than that, good show! 👍

Good content

Very enjoyable. Doesn’t shy away from the disturbing aspects, but it isn’t murder porn and is respectful to the victims. Highly recommended

Check it out- you won’t be sorry!

I’m a huge true crime fan and I listen to several true crime podcasts, but it takes a lot to hold my interest. This podcast has the perfect “vibe” of true crime and grit, is incredibly well researched, and touches on cases that aren’t just regurgitations of the same usual crimes that are covered. There is a healthy mix of the obscure and the infamous. If you are a true crime fan, you NEED to give this show a listen. I’d give it ten stars if I could.

Obscura

This is among the top 3 in all of True Crime. I look at other reviews and can’t help but laugh at the stupidity and ridiculously lame reasons for a review other than 5 Star. I was utterly and completely shocked. Amazing voice, phenomenal research, dark stories that paint and pave an excellent telling, with the ending on POINT (emphasis on the T). I subscribe to black label, as I adore this Podcast, and anyone who places a rating of less than 5 stars, are quite Stupid. I truly wish I could comment on these morons posts. It’s looking at every podcasts descriptive storytelling, and 98% of these True Crime podcasts fall short. Obscura won my heartstrings when it started and will forever have a fan!

Amazing!

Being a new user to podcasts, it’s difficult to listen to podcasts that I’ll find interesting. I listen to this while playing video games/reading because his voice is extremely calming, but the fact that these stories are so detailed and well researched, I just have to pause and listen. The 3.5 stars don’t do this podcast any justice. The fact that people mention the pronunciation of words is off? I’ve honestly never noticed and I still can’t! The timing of ads is reasonable and not more than 1 minute which is hard to find! Definitely my favorite podcast to listen to.

Awesome

Came across this podcast while looking for something to listen to at work as I travel for work and spend many hours on a plane each week and have my headphones in all day and while working. After three weeks and almost threw all of 2018 post I became a patreon due to loving this show so much!!! Keep up the awesome work and hopefully I will buy a shirt soon to show my love for the show while in the airports every week.

A good replacement

I am quickly becoming obsessed with Obscura. Justin has a calm voice and the podcast is wonderfully detailed. This is a great replacement for another podcast with a problematic male host.

Actual research, new information

An ethical, well researched (well beyond wiki) and actually produced podcast. I listen to them all (that has to be diagnosable), and this is a good one. Host has some verbal tics and occasionally mispronounces a few words. So do we all, who cares. Love the host, love the show. Terrific. I think he actually cares about the victims and I think he cares about not traumatizing listeners. Which does not make this a lightweight podcast, there’s some seriously intense information in these episodes, just thoughtful. A true crime podcast with a soul.

5-stars all the way

I don’t understand the 3.5 rating. This podcast handles very dark material with respect for victims. No beer or wine with inane laughter or desperate housewives who don’t have anything better to do. Narration is wonderful...great voice and doesn’t sound like your reading from a book. Script is well thought out, interesting bits thrown in that makes some of the more well known people/events come alive. Justin & team...keep on keepin’ on! Well done!

Great podcast!

This is an excellent true crime pod. No cheesy jokes, no sensationalist BS, just well narrated, well researched stories. The host has a pretty gravelly voice which threw me off at first. It’s like he must gargle rock salt with Jim Bean or something, but I actually grew to really like it.

In love with Obscura !!!

I found this podcast last December and was immediately completely immersed in the very first episode and was hooked! I was driving home from Dallas to Little Rock and it was midnight when I left Dallas and began listening... I was home before I knew it. Thank you so much for how hard you work and how thorough you are with each episode. I have listened to every one so I have started back at the beginning and listening now to each episode again. Keep up the good work and I’ll continue waiting for your next episode patiently while sitting by the fire! Darlene

Listener...

When I was a kid, I used to have a radio right next to my bed. I would listen to Radio Mystery Theater and get scared by the stories. Every night, I loved hearing the narrator and his familiar voice. Obscura is similar - the host has a very steady tone that you come to expect. Just hearing him say "Listener" has something reassuring about it. Hard to explain. Listen to the show and see what I mean.

Pretty great show

No idea why this pod only has a 3.5 rating; as a long time true crime pod listener, I found out about this through another tc pod fan page. His cadence is calculated, and similar to that of the Swindled pod. A new one of my favorites! Well researched and not all cookie cutter stories.
